This seriously had to be one of the greatest fashion shows I have ever watched. (I wish I could have been there!) The Chanel Ready -to – Wear Fall collection, presented in Paris, amazed everyone with it’s 265 ton, 28 foot iceberg holding center stage. The models walked around and through the iceberg while stomping their fur covered heels in water. There had never been anything like this before, Karl Lagerfeld says the idea came to him in a dream.
The collection was very focused and well tailored even though it was mostly fur. I have seen many designers (I wont play the name game) attempt to use excessive fur in their collection without nearly as elegant of an outcome. These fur boots, mini skirts, pants, coats, and even purses were all totally wearable.
The show starts with a focus on browns and hints of red and other neutrals, still showcasing the furs and tweeds. This brought a bohemian type of elegance instead of the crisp city sleek black. Later in the show a few men’s pieces were showcased. Some featured a cool navy blue that was AWOL in the women’s collection. Toward the end Lagerfeld goes back to the classic black and white looks, but they are anything but passe. Some of the best pieces were the white sweater dresses, a novel idea that could have believably been worn right off the runway to the after party. At the very end the audience was graced with long white floor length skirts made with layered chiffon.
